Site of the Matsuzakibaba
This site was formerly a government horse training ground lined with pine trees (hence the name, which also referred to part of the road leading from here toward Urasoe). On the occasion of banquets given in honor of Chinese coronation envoys coming to Ryukyu, a gallery was built to let the Ryutan (Dragon Pond).
Stone wall remains of two previous institutions on this site, namely the Kokugaku, (the kingdom's highest school, established 1837), were identified in 1989, and the remains were designated cultural heritage site and historical landmark.
