「豆相人車鉄道」は雨宮敬次郎氏と、地元の有志20余名の努力によっ
て、明治29年(1896)3月、熱海一小田原間(25km)全線が開通した。
所要時間は4時間ほどであった。この人車鉄道は定員6名あるいは
8名の客車を3名の人夫が押すという、きわめて原始的なものであ
った。明治29年当時の運賃は熱海から小田原まで、下等40銭、中等
60銭、上等1円、3歳未満は無料、10歳未満は半額というものであ
った。
「豆相人車鉄道」は日本最初のもので、明治40年(1907)12月、軽便鉄
道にかわるまでの12年間、貴重な交通として利用された。

This was opend between Atami and Odawara, about 25 kilometers, by Mr.Keijiro Amemiya and other
volunteers in March 1896. It took about more than 4 hours.
This coach had a capacity of 6 or 8 passengers. Three workers had to push at the ascent. Fo
12 years, this was used till the change of a steam locomotive.
